Superleague Team fall at Quarter Final Stage
Despite a tremendous effort, the Superleague team fell short last Sunday as they went down to Demons on a scoreline of 83 79. Eight missed free throws in the last 3 minutes cost the team heavily and denied the opportunity to progress to the Final 4.
Scott Summersgill (27 pts) and Fergal Toner ( 22 pts) along with Kevin Ratzsch (19 pts) led the scoring but Joshua Johnson had 36 pts and did a lot of damage on the offensive boards. Demons made the big plays when they had to. A big 3 from Kyle Hosford at the end of the 3rd quarter, a Carlton Cuffe runner from the middle of the lane and a nice drive and penetration from Shane Coughlan being some of the crucial moments in the game.
Star can be proud of the strides they made this year finishing 10 - 8 in a very competitive league to finish 2nd in the Northern Conference. Self belief and a ruthless streak in terms of closing out games need to be added for next year.
We wish Ewan McGrattan a speedy recovery after his bravery led to Star taking the lead in the 4th quarter. His bravery also led to a broken arm!
We also hope Kevin Ratzsch every success in his new job with Melbourne in Australia.
