U13 boys win the Ulster Cup

Star and Carrickmacross Rockets could barely be separated all season with a 1 point win for either side in the league clashes. Therefore, it was no surprise today when the big crowd was entertained in a thrilling final today in UUJ. The 37 - 36 scoreline only begins to tell the story of an eventful game full of fine performances on both sides. 3 pointers, free throws, misses, rebounds, intentional fouls, drama right to the death, when Star held their nerves to close the game out and retain their Ulster title.

Coach Phil Molloy aged considerably over the course of the game but did another fantastic job with the squad over the course of the season! Powered by the scoring of the Mighty Quinns (Bob Dylan wrote that one!), Conor 13 points, Aidan 8 points and the tenacious rebounding of Donal McEvoy (10 points) and Liam Pettigrew (4 points), the Star boys had managed to pull out to a 9 point lead at one stage. Carrickmacross came roaring back with MVP point guard O'Hanlon rallying his troops. However, Star got significant contributions from Joe Gribben, Paul Gault (2 points), Matthew Hannigan (2 points), Philip Davison, Ruairi Scott and Daniel Kelly. Tommy McGoran and Fintan Donnelly have also been valued members of the squad this season.

Well done to all!
